Bassist marketability

I started practicing my singing more about 4 years ago and now have a lot more songs in my repertoire and started a duo 3 years ago in which I sing lead on half the songs. Now at 70 I am rockin pretty good. Played a duo gig Wednesday and Friday subbed on bass Saturday and I had to turn down another band Saturday morning that wanted me to play Saturday night.
I think I am the only person in town who uses the old standard mic stand instead of the boom tripod thing.View attachment 7201137View attachment 7201138

Thanks for sharing that, and, by the way, I also use a standard "straight" stand with a circular base. Takes up less room!

I have been lucky to be a part of a band that has more than enough singers battling for the mic. I can sing in a limited way, harmonize better but my REAL problem is, as a singer, I don't know what songs would be a good vocal fit for me. I'd like to do certain songs, usually the wrong ones that I just can't do well.

Finding one's voice, finding one's range and songs is where I always choose poorly. Thus, I move away from it.

View attachment 7200431Need to sing? I’m sure it helps. But mostly you just need to show up, play your parts well, and don’t be a douche. Plenty of work with just those 3 “skills”

I agree! Good bass players are hard to come by; they are all working! So, if you are reliable and can play the bass well, you will not have any trouble finding work!
