+1 for Tim Bogert. I have a recording of him playing with BBA (Beck, Bogert, and Appice) doing a Plynth/Shotgun Medley with a big bass solo. Something about the old sound of the Fender bass into a Maestro fuzz into a sweet already sweating tube amp blows away everyone else, even the ones that actually sound good (ie: NOT anyone from metallica).

+1 for Tim Bogert. His solos on "Break Song" from the Vanilla Fudge album Near the Beginning and "Oleo" from the Cactus album are also screaming.

By the time he was in BBA, Tim was using a Sunn Coliseum SS head with 2 big Univox cabs, I think they were 4x15's(!) I saw him play in both Cactus and BBA with that setup.

I gotta give a huge Julie Slick kudos. She has a fantastic overdriven tone (not too dissimilar to Wetton) with Adrian Belew.

Wow! What a fantastic bass player! The sound is incredible, but the playing... just wow... Top notch.
