Bassist with most UNIQUE tone

i agree with a lot of you, but Billy sheehan
i mean the man splits his bass 3 ways. one pick up (P style) goes to a clean channel and major compression. and the other goes to a clean channel with only bottom and some low mids.
you can't get more unique then that

Not sure if anyone said it yet...
But Ryan from Mudvayne has such stand out tone, and his playing is phenomenal.
I don't like the direction that band took after their first major album. But you can't deny Ryan's playing!

I'm surprised there aren't more mentions of Lemmy from Motorhead.
Now, you might not LIKE his tone. But who else turns the lows and highs all the way down and the mids all the way up? His sound is pretty unique.

Bootsy. Other cats will turn on an envelope filter and funk out but never do they reach that sort of visceral spaceblast that is Bootsies tone.
Mick Karn...generic fretless but he gets that too sing pretty differently.
The bass player from lamb of god also has an interesting tone on their latest album...can't stand the album, but it's...interesting.
Clutch's bassplayer has tone for miles...basic, but very very full of life.
Tim Commorford gets a sound all his own too...huge and grindy, but never offensive.

I know these have been said, but I'll add my $0.02
Marcus Miller - you always know when it's him playing. Listen to any song by SMV for example. Victor has a Jaco-esque sound (obviously with his own touch) and I'm not a huge fan of Stanley's tone, but you can always pick out Marcus' tone as his individual personality in the recordings.
Geddy Lee - Throughout the years, his gear has changed, but you could always tell it was him playing whatever he happened to be playing at the time.
And of course, John Entwhistle

Billy Sheehan on the Talas album "Sink Your Teeth Into That" sounds like a beast. Lemmy on "Ace of Spades" was one of the first distortion tones that I remember (a la Cliff on "Anesthesia"). Cronos on "Black Metal" makes you bleed internally when he slides....
