For the most distinctive sound my vote goes for Marcus Miller.

Bill Dickens has a unique tone. Super clear sounding. His bass sounds incredibly guitar like in the upper registers.

You can't say that Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, and Stanley Clarke have a unique tone because their tones are textbook, everyone tries to copy it. Thus, it is no longer unique tone, it is now only original and classic.

My votes:

Les Claypool - That rubbery sound. Also very original in the way he equalizes with the mid turned all the way up.

John Myung - Very strange crunchy sound because he uses injection boxes rather than amplifiers.

(Recent) Stanley Clarke- He's been using wierd effects lately. That's certainly one way to get an original tone.

Stu Hamm - His bass and the open slap lines give him a pretty wierd sound.

Doug Pinnick - And the tone comes through exactly the same live (buy the man a burger!)

Tom Jenkinson (squarepusher)!.. Hands down, his tone in unmistakable... Simple but insain at the same time, much like himself... Mind you his sound has 3 aspects:

6 string warwick
Moogerfoger RingMod
Eventide Harmonizer

but his playing style brings it all together, I can even tell its him when he plays clean..
