I realize he has been spoken of before on here but i'm throwing Zdenek Gubb from Twiddle in the mix here.

Sam Wilkes who plays with Knower. The hype is huge around Knower but I see very little mention of Sam in the wider bass world.

Never said nobody had heard of him, just that he doesn't get discussed much here.

Most have never heard of him unless you are into jazz in the late 20th century which is allot of people., I Have read discussions of him here, just not lately...looking up his VAST discography was a lot of fun, as a reply to the one (1) cred you gave was fun too. sorry.
I worship Jimmy Guiffrey and have been aware of his bass player since then. This is a newer 2007 release so you hear the acoustic bass guitar Steve Swallow played in his later years, it's a reunion of a lineup in existence since the early 60s.

Gary Thaine of early Uriah Heep was a HUGE influence on my playing.
Tasty, busy basslines in a hard rock product. So cool...
But outside of bass circles I don't think he's well known.
For sure not as much as he should be.

John McVie - One of the best, but I don't think I've ever seen his name mentioned here.
His tone and style is one I personally think of as rock.

Mario Cipollina - from Huey Lewis and the News in the 80s. Just an awesome bassist and a favorite of mine. The epitome of good time rock-n-roll 80s bass playing!

John McVie? Seriously? He's always discussed here.
