I've never heard bad playing covered up by effects. If the the playing is sloppy effects will only make it sound even worse. I never understood that argument.

And I will say it again: Why do you guys who hate effects so much even read posts in this section or post in it. We get it you are close minded curmudgeons who fear change. Now please go away.

Nor I. I have heard great players with lots of effects and bad players with lots of effects. The great players sound great, the bad players sound bad. Effects don't cover up bad playing, they just give bad players effects to play bad through. My opinion of course.

The BEST sound I have ever gotten from my bass was straight into my amp. BUT, I love the way my bass sounds with chorus, delay, low-mid boost, and some raunchy fuzz. Its cool to twang and thump through a song only to bust out some fuzzy-chorusy-delayed goodness in a fill between guitar chords... Too much fun!

The OP's guitarist sounds more than a little threatened and week minded. Pretty typical of egocentric treble-guitarists who, for some reason, all think they're Yngwie Malmsteen or Andres Segovia with an amp.

I remember when my guitarist told me I needed to get pedals. I also remember him getting jealous once I got them.

It didn't bother me though. I've already gotten use to the fact that 99% of guitarist are egotistical jerks!

But effects on the bass are okay IMO. I have a few, mostly for fun for now, but hoping to implement them in some original stuff soon
