Bassists that dont play on their bands recordings

Fran Sheehan of Boston if I recall. I read that Tom Scholz actually recorded the bass parts. I could be wrong here. David Gilmour also recorded a fair amount of Pink Floyd bass lines.
Both of the above are true IIRC. Actually, I remember reading somewhere that Gilmour was once asked if it was him or Roger doing the fretless work on "Hey You". His reply was something like "Roger?....On a fretless?!?!?" and then there was laughter.
Also, D'Arcy never played on a Pumpkins album, Billy Corgan did all the bass lines in the Studio...she only played them live. I must say Billy did some very nice work for a guitard. Can't think of any other at the moment, but I'm sure there are more.

Obviously not always the case, but Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards both played bass on studio tracks for The JHE and the Rolling Stones.

Somehow im always in right after a recording session or something, so im not on the music that have been recorded. but that gonna change now

I actualy did a session for a band that's on Facedown records whom I know for a fact their bassist wasn't even present. I played on two songs, and the guitarist (through my gear) played on the rest. Did I mention that the bassist at the time didn't even have equipment. You'd think that a guy on a label would at least invest in gear.

gene simmons played on most of the songs but I think paul stanley played on a few and so did one of their producers as well as ace frehley.
Alec John Such of Bon Jovi apparently never played on any studio recordings. Hugh McDonald reportedly recorded for the band, starting on the single of Runaway before the Bon Jovi had an actual band, continuing through all their records, even after Such quit the band. McDonald now tours with Bon Jovi but I don't think is an official member.

The Byrds have repeatedly denied this. It was only the single Mr. Tambourine Man, not the whole album, that the studio group played on.

Oh yeah, I think I recall now that Paul played bass on "I Still Love You" I know Ace didnt play some of the leads on Destroyer as well.
Sid didn't play live either, well on that American tour anyway. I heard Malcom McClaren speak one time and he said they had to play recorded bass parts because he was high all the time.
I believe that's a stretch. Corgan played a LOT of the bass tracks, but D'Arcy definitely recorded at least some of them. I've seen YouTubes of her in the studio laying down tracks, anyway.
You're correct. I wrote 'album' instead of 'single'. However, studio tapes do exist of several of the songs from the first album with the Wrecking Crew playing. See [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
