Bassists you think more should know of....

Markus Grosskopf- Helloween, this guy has some sick lines and solos.
James Schumacher- listen to some Brocas Helm, youll see what im talking about.
Sir Albert Witchfinder- plays simple lines that add alot, plus hes got some badass tone.

ANOTHER MARCUS FAN!!

That man is insane...one of the nicest people you could ever meet too. Drew a pumpkin on the headstock of my jag then he played it for a bit...

-Jimmy Johnson (I know this awesome guy is well known in the USA, but here in Italy not really)
-Oskar Cartaya
-Tom Kennedy
-John Pena
-Ralph Armstrong
-Jeff Andrews
-Kai Eckhardt

These are some players that I think are awesome, but you don't see take their right credits so often on the magazines....

Colin Hodgekinson.(Hope I spelled his name right).

Astounding British player.Had a band called Back Door with Sax,electric bass, drums in the late 60's- early 70's. Made a record or two for Warner/Reprise.

I don't usually go for these super players but this gentleman blew me away.Amazing chordal technique & all the skill you can imagine & then some& even with all the flash,he kept the groove! I heard & saw him before I heard Jaco. Back Door sounded like a 4 or 5 player band!

He pops up here & there, but it seems he prefers to keep a low profile.I think he still does a bit of session work in Britian.

lenny kottke from the good rats.

standout tracks are:
'klash-ka-bob'
'cherry river'
'injun joe'

you can see newer live vids of them on youtube, but very few acts compare to them in the days of the album 'live at last'

check em out on myspace, too. they've played with any major act that's come to the east cost of the US. they're in the rock n roll hall of fame, but they just couldn't "make it" in the commercial sense, even with a few radio hits in the seventies.

Finally, someone else who has heard of The Good Rats - incredible band

Check out Crack The Sky if you like the Rats, Cary Zeigler is a great bass player and some of the stuff he wrote and played on the CTS tunes is great

Wyzard from Mothers Finest would be my pick, I have seen Mothers Finest about 7 or 8 times and Wyzard is amazing every time and so is the band, I think Mothers Finest is the most underrated band that I know of......Check him out

Just went thru the whole thread and saw no mention of Keith Horne - killer bass player but not a household name

plays upside down and left handed -

+1 I met Keith back in Richmond,Va. in the early 90's before he moved to Nashville.Great player and very humble guy.As I recall, his dad was a bluegrass player from West Virginia and he had a guitar in his hand by age three.Great pedal steel player too from what I've been told.

He had a fusion band called Secrets with Carter Beauford in late 80's,early 90's and then took off to Nashville and worked with Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood. Not exactly sure what he's doing now.

Anybody know?
