Bassists youre tired of hearing about

The old "Trial by Licenced Premises" ploy, eh? None of that strange yellow stuff though, beer should be brown.

I didn't say SC was rubbish. He's bloody good - waay better than I could ever hope to be. I just get bored with the whole over-lauding of jazz fusion like it's the best thing since sliced cheese. It's good but I view it as music for the head, not the feet - my biggest buzz comes from seeing a rammed dancefloor & knowing that it's because me and the drummer are swinging our backsides off.

Pete.

I know what you're saying. He has been turned into a 'Brand', but he was/is a prodigy and that shouldn't be forgotten. Much as I've idolized him in the past, I can't stand the smaltzy movie themes he does now.

Guys whose careers and musical contribution have just been beaten to death by online forums, bass rags, music rags, etc etc.

Ill start

Jaco and Jamerson

If I have to read about these guys one more time, I think my head will explode haha. I mean respect th heck out of them and appreiate what they did for the world of bass, but these guys have just been beaten to death (no pun intended with Jaco).

+5 on that.

And Flea. He's good, but I'm tired of hearing about him.

yeah victor, he revolutionized the instrument...nice thing about wooten gives us something to strive to be able to do while we sit in our practice rooms, but is it useful for anything we do in actual bands, great if you are just playing with a drummer, my favorite things about listening to wooten is when he actually plays in a full band context, great groove, but stop with the solo stuff...i get really tired of guys emulating wooten and thinking they have him pin pointed...and it just ends up being sloppy. I had one guy from CT that I got into an argument with because he was actually giving lessons to young bassists and he couldn't tune his bass or play in time AT ALL! very wooten sort of style, he told me that thats just how he plays...out of key and out of time...WHAT!!!

Geddy.

I liked Rush a lot more before I came to TB. Actually same with Wooten, Jaco, etc. I guess the overload (and hero worship) sort of turns me off to listening in my spare time. I'm kinda stuck on Pino (goes to show I guess that when it's YOUR hero worship it's ok lol), Juan Nelson, Justin Raines, and a few others right now.

EXACTLY!

I spent several years working with kids in the local high school jazz band and they all wanted to do was play like VW. I had a hell of a time teaching them to sit back and worry about controlling their own space and to lock in with the drummer to create the groove. They justed wanted to take off all over the fingerboard.......most of them had a poor sense of timing.

In no particular order.... Jaco, Jamerson, Flea, Wooten, Burton.

It's not that I don't like them as players, or like their music.... but please, could we hear about someone else for a change? There's a finite amount of stuff you can say about any musician, especially if they've been dead for twenty-odd years, and after that it gets repetitive and boring.

Sting.
His music does nothing for me, and I get tired of hearing his political comments about countries he doesn't reside in. (<--That pretty much applies to any musician/actor/entertainer!) Shut up and play...and play something interesting.

And Geddy Lee.
Undoubtedly a gifted musician, and I have tremendous respect for his abilities. But it seems this guy is EVERYWHERE in the bass world.

any bass player who slaps over 70% of songs

now i use slap in both my bands but its only on one song

as for cliff he was the only good thing that ever happend to metallica but he really is over rated

geddy lee. i like prog but not rush so he never intrested me

and as for jaco i like his playing but come on guys give it a rest

I know... ppl say it but he's not that good. I hate to say it but he's avg. He can play well but that doesn't define you as good

Sorry, but this is pretty ridiculous when taken literally. He plays well but that doesn't make you good? Be sides the subject agreement issues, I would say that ABSOLUTELY defines good. As far as him being average, that would have to mean that the middle of the talent spectrum bass players can do what he does (thats an average). I don't personally think he is the greatest ever or that he is Godlike(and neither is any bass player. In a forum where we get so concerned about offending every cry baby with an opinion how come the blasphemy of calling a drunken bass player God with a capital G is ok. I mean there are probably some Christians who might be a little bothered by that) but I do believe that most bassists could not walk into one of his gigs, plug in and duplicate him to where no one could tell the difference. Not disagreeing with your premise, just your words. End rant.
