Bassists youre tired of hearing about

I only get tired of hearing/reading certain names because there are other great bassists who don't get enough mention in comparison. For instance, we hear about Jamerson all the time, but what about Bob Babbitt?

The really bad part about this is that many fantastic bass players who have their name plastered everywhere get a certain amount of undeserved distain just because they are famous.

Exactly. There are certain bassists which just need to be mentioned more, rather than whatever bassist YOU think you've heard too much about. Babbitt is certainly a good example. Less crapping on what surely will be some other people's favorite bassists, and more mentions of bassists we should know more about. Like David Hood:

And there are some people dislike something simply because it's "popular". I heard it again tonight being with in earshot of another conversation between two musicians.

David Hood definitely deserves more love here. Muscle Shoals, folks!

His son kicks ass, too.

Anthony Jackson, Vic, MARCUS, Vic Bailey, Carol Kaye and pretty much any neo-3rd world jazz putz that happens to be backing Mike Stern at the moment. And Justin Meldel Johnson. And the chick playing for Jeff Beck. Flame on.
