Bassists youre tired of hearing about

haha great thread. i agree with most of the above and that is the reason why i stopped buying bassplayer magazine a few years ago. i noticed that vic and flea and stanley and les and on and on seem to get on the cover way too many times and players that i think should get a cover - jonas hellborg, are seemingly ignored. i like all of those guys, but there are other players out there as well.

No...before that....probably Jane Austen or The Scarlet Pimpernel.:D

Look, I'm not sure this is going to work.

If I stay up for about 3hrs I can get the first shot in, but the odds of it making it 10,000 or so miles are very long indeed.

We could post the round to each other, but given the state of the Royal Mail delivery could be just as random.

Perhaps we could nominate a couple of Seconds to take pot-shots at each other - know anyone that lives in Mauritius?

Cliff Burton definitely... his tone was horrible and his wankery mediocre at best... and that's for mind/soulless wankery. And there's no genius in harmonizing a melody on one song. Anyone with a set of ears or bad ears and basic working knowledge of some basic music theory can do that, as so many of them do so often, much more impressively than Cliff Burton on his one song. Furthermore nothing Cliff Burton did was innovative in the least. Some people would know if they listened to something other than metal and/or didn't think music started in the 80's. And of course we have kids that weren't even born when he died all about RIp CliFf BuRton! You don't see me whining RIP Mozart!

That's funny. I'll buy you a pint then, when I visit the 'Mother Country' next year. Forget the duel.....if you retract what you said about Stanley.

Jaco

Seriously, I realize he's very good, but gawd D@MN! Shut up about him already. And really, that goes for all those really technical guys: Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, etc.
STFU, make your bass sound like a bass, not a guitar, and keep a rhythm.

i've got a hunch that victor has more rhythm than you :smug:

while i love and respect victor, it is annoying that 14 year old rockers think he is "the best" and there are no exceptions.

ive also heard enough about geddy lee, for sure.

Not the bassists but I'm fed up with the 16 year olds calling grammy winning, grooving like a mofo, taking a solo here and there musicians "wanker" with watching 1-2 youtube vids...

So I just scroll faster when I see that.

But If I hear someone saying "Jaco only needed 4" seriously,I might slap their mouth...

The old "Trial by Licenced Premises" ploy, eh? None of that strange yellow stuff though, beer should be brown.

I didn't say SC was rubbish. He's bloody good - waay better than I could ever hope to be. I just get bored with the whole over-lauding of jazz fusion like it's the best thing since sliced cheese. It's good but I view it as music for the head, not the feet - my biggest buzz comes from seeing a rammed dancefloor & knowing that it's because me and the drummer are swinging our backsides off.

Pete.
