Double Bass BassMax installation issue

So, from the diagram it looks as if I'm supposed to hook the jack plate around the two middle strings. However, the plate is nowhere near wide enough to be able to do this. Am I supposed to bend the strings below the bridge closer together to fit the jack in (I really doubt this . . . ) or something else?

Did you try it down by the tailpiece? It should be as far from the bridge as possible (so you don't mute it.)

You "bend" the strings together. Its not that far once its in. Then the tension holds it in place.

Then add amp and enjoy.
