Basson 810 help

I got endorsed by Basson so I decided to get their 810 for way cheap before even trying it. I got it and I cant get a clear tone out of it. It just sounds too thick and muddy. Ive tried hundreds of settings with my head through it.

I power it with an SVT-2 Pro which sounds good through an ampeg 810.
The Cab says it needs about 1500 Watts to power it properly and Im wondering if the tone I dont like is because my head can only push 300 watts. Its all tube though.

Can anyone tell me whats wrong or how to get a better tone?

well, it means 1500 Solistate watts.

as arguable as it may be, 300 tube watts is equal to alot more SS watts (speaking relatively)

As far as tone, I'd say get a Sansamp or other good preamp and filter the tone out as much you can through that.

Or replace speakers?

if it is Too bassy, get the cabinet off the ground. (road case, add wheels, something like that.)

Sorry, no help here. My back hurts today! :smug: Seriously, if you can get ahold of a high power PA, use your preamp out or slave out (from your SVT2Pro) to the PA and power the cab that way. I would probably keep a load on the SVT while you attempt that.

Could be. Basson advertises their drivers as having extremely large magnets. Extremely large magnets result in very thin bass response. While it's possible to get adequate bass output from drivers of this type they require a lot of low end EQ to do it, and low end EQ sucks up gobs of power.

I tried one of Basson's 810 cabs and wasn't sold on the tone. If you have the opportunity, I suggest you experiment with a large power am/pre amp setup, as previously suggested. The magnets on those drivers are indeed weighty (13 pounds each?) and that cab likes mucho power (think 1500+ watts). Good luck.
