You do not need to unplug it during the gig everytime you put the instrument down. With a new battery it should last at least 100 hours continuously plugged in. Some bases like Warwicks can last two three times that... So is active stingray really.

Could just put a on/off toggle switch to the jack
Easy to do but, it's easy just to pull the cord or wireless. The price of 9Vs will make you remember sooner or later.
I've seen plenty of photos, and even experienced IRL, damage to instruments knocked off stands when the plugged in lead is pulled from say a trip.Who leaves their bass always plugged in? That's just asking for problems regardless of the electronics

I have this little gadget to check the battery in the Lakland without removing the plastic control cover plate. It's called a Batt-o-Meter and it can check any 9volt. You do have to change the 9v inside the Batt-o-meter.

Yep, shorting the cable via the jack sleeve will certainly cause a pop, which is why I always plug in the cables before I turn the Amp on, and turn the amp off before I remove them. Plugging in a 1/4" speaker cable can be especially risky if the Amp is on (Speak-ons rotate to make contact, 1/4" TS will short).I have the same issue, but how can you unplug the guitar lead from your bass to prevent battery loss without getting that terrific crackling from the FOH speakers? Even turning the volume down on the amp does not prevent this?
Not difficult, but it's always going to have to draw power so that it can monitor when in the OFF state so that when you go to use it again, it will turn back on, or else you're going to need a switch to turn it back on. It will also be using current to monitor when the bass is in use, reducing battery life. Also, what if the monitor circuit goes faulty mid gig and turns off your bass? Won't simply having it be anxiety inducing for some here?
I really don't get people not being able to perform such a simple task as unplugging a bass when not in use, yet still being (relatively) functional in the world to take care of kids, dogs, turning off their car when in the garage, applying the park brake on an incline etc.

It takes only 20 seconds more, but that little bit of friction is enough to stop 9 out of 10 impulses to play. And the thing that keeps me from being a better bassist isn't my gear, it is that I need to play more.
