be careful about writing off everything with a battery.
it seems kind of silly to write off all active basses because of one bad one
Is one Stingray with faulty electronics a good reason to write off all active basses?

Do tell! I've played close to1000 gigs with passive 5s over the past two decades.Any passive fiver can let you go down badly at a gig. Just saying.
ALL basses can malfunction, regardless of whether they have a battery. I most likely would have been much cheaper to just fix it.the problem continued even after fitting a new battery and input jack so I sold it for half what I paid.
Just because YOU weren't let down doesn't mean NO one that every played a passive bass wasn't let down. I've never broken a bass string in 47 years of playing. Does that mean that no string has ever broken?Do tell! I've played close to1000 gigs with passive 5s over the past two decades.
How was I let down?

I had a car break down once. From now on I'm walking!
Welcome to Talkbass John! There are many passive (this is the right term for batteryless) 5-string options. Did you otherwise like the sound of the Stingray? What's your budget?Hi all, new to the forum and desperate to find out please please
Does anyone know of a 5 string electric bass guitar that does NOT use a 9 volt battery or batteries?
I used to have a musicman stingray 5 - but it let me down badly at a gig - the sound started cutting in and out - the problem continued even after fitting a new battery and input jack so I sold it for half what I paid. Now I am on the hunt for a batteryless 5 string....
Thanks, John

At least someone got a great deal on a Stingray that needed minor electrical work.ALL basses can malfunction, regardless of whether they have a battery. I most likely would have been much cheaper to just fix it.![]()

I broke an E string once, now I just string my basses ADG.![]()
I think mine is tremendous. There are a ton of options there... Peavey Grind 5 would be a good option (i've got the Grind 6 which is a 6 string version of basically the same bass). Other than that, there are 5 string P-basses that are passive, J-basses.... really any option you could want. Shop around a little and you should find something pretty easy.
and L2500 can be run passiveG&L. Both the Kiloton and JB5 are passive
