battery keeps draining in active pickups

Can't be wired right then. I'd suggest looking at the wiring layout, or taking it to a bass tech.

If it is draiing your battery, then most likely the output jack is wired wrong. That is the main culprit in my experience. The "ring" connector on the output jack acts as a switch, turning off power when no plug is in. if that wasn't done properly (or if you didn't use a 3 terminal jack) it will just keep draining until dead.
