Be honest: Was your Warmoth build worth it?

I just spend a few minutes on that and came up with a $2200 build, similar to my Warmoth idea. I LOVE the idea of the "View as you go" thing. Really gives you an idea of what it will resemble. Made me make a few changes to my warmoth neck..

Saw this thread.
Long time Warmoth fan and user, but in 2018/2019 I'd put in a disclaimer. What was once a customer oriented company that had a lot of attention to detail they have slipped quite a bit. They are charging top dollar and their QC is lacking. Customer service is very average and to be honest, almost non-exsistent. The only way these days that it is worth it, is if you find it used.

$750 for a neck? Come on.

I have had pretty good experiences overall but have received some parts with imperfections. They always make it right though.

You can get a neck or body for under $200, or you can spend $1000+. I have done both.

Warmoth really has no competition that I know of when it comes to offering hobbyists the fancy woods and all the options.

I just placed an order for myself on the weekend and will soon be ordering another for our next charity project. I’m a happy customer.

I just did a Warmoth build and it's was absolutely worth it. I modeled my build after a $2000 Fender and ended up with a much nicer bass for almost half the cost. Plus I got to have the fun of building it.

I like the Warmoth stuff as well. And your partially right, they will fix or replace things, that is eventually, on their time frame with very little emphasis on the customer service side in our experience.

And actually they do have competition now, USA Customs, MJT & All Parts.

I wrote ^^^that two years ago. Just ordered parts for another build. So far it's coming in well under $1k ...but I have no illusions it's gonna stay that way! :)

I'm honestly dying to know what it takes to get a Warmoth neck up to $750. I've tried all sorts of wood combos and every single neck I can cobble together winds up between $300 and $485. Solid padauk with graphite reinforcing bars? No problemo. I just bought a quarter-sawn Brazilian ebony neck with matching ebony fingerboard and stainless steel frets. Under $400. Did you request the mastadon tusk nut?!?!

Haha, yeah it's easy to get there. Try to build a Jazz Bass neck out of exotic wood. When you go unique choice and options you will get there pretty fast amigo. "Oh yeah forgot... you want a finish too?.. Cha Ching".

Agreed. I like USACG much better. They are in a rebuilding mode, but now you can order stuff again, and I hear that at some point they will offer in-house finishing. They are my go-to.

Not in my case. I am sitting on a neck here that needs a new nut because they refused to stand behind it, even when I proved to them it had the wrong dimensions. According to them, it was "within spec." It'a P-bass nut on a J-bass neck.

Try USACG. They sent me a stunning roasted maple neck, only I had to finish it myself to see the "stunning" part. Tru-Oil is a wonder.

Thanks. I considered them but I can find better for less. Their resale value might be the worst around, too.

Yeah, I agree. I’ve noticed they act like they are doing you a favor if they go and decide to rule in your favor. It’s staggering to us that “just making it right or being cool to their customers or bring flexible seems to elude them. It’s happened several times to us and also to other folks we know as well. All long time Warmoth users and customers. It’s a shame it’s become a culture there. No doubt nice stuff but cost vs reward, we are looking elsewhere for our stuff.

Lots of options for standard woods out there. I can’t find exotics anywhere except Warmoth.

Brilliant. What a terrific accomplishment. My dad passed away last year living with Parkinson's for the last 15 years so I especially appreciate the message behind your bass.
