BEAD tuning...

I did this a while ago, just out of curiosity. Put a set of Warwick Black Label Low B strings (65-135) on my '78 Kramer 450B. Functionally, it worked very well; the sound was monstrous :eek: I took them off after a couple of weeks, because:
1- They were just overpowering for the kind of music I like to play (most of which should be played on an upright, anyway);
2- I would have had to open the slots in the nut to really use them, and the pinned-in-place aluminum nut on an aluminum necked Kramer is not easily fixed or replaced these days;
3- I'm just way too used to EADG, anyhow.

Still, it was an interesting experiment, and I know that it will work (on the Kramer, anyway) if I decide to play stuff that requires it. Still have the strings around somewhere...:)

Yes, it is definitely not the solution for everyone, nor every bass. I only experimented with it to see if it would work. If it hadn't I would have gone back to the EADG (with a new nut), but thus far it's been going great for me.
