Double Bass Bearable christmas/holiday albums?

Tough to find, but Bobby Timmons Holiday Soul is a personal favorite. Never issued on CD, but you said you were an album guy. It's worth looking for a dusty LP copy of.

Blues singer/piano player Charles Brown wrote and recorded an entire album of original Christmas songs in the late fifties that is superb. One of the songs is "Ringing in a Brand New Year" which should really be a New Years standard IMO- GREAT song! I don't know if it has ever been reissued on CD, but King records reissued the vinyl repeatedly into the seventies, so a decent copy shouldn't be too hard to find.

No Christmas music collection is complete without Louis Armstrongs' "Cool Yule" and " 'Zat you, Santa Claus?". The King Cole Trio version of "The Christmas Song" is worth tracking down, too.



Nice taste here of the Charles Brown. Pure blues feeling in that voice. Looks like this can be had on itunes.

Allligator Records puts out a couple blues Christmas CDs. A lot of non-traditional songs but many of them are fun - speaking to the human 'condition' during the holiday season. I particularily like Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin':

If I remember correctly from music history class, Bach's G minor violin sonata is the "christmas" sonata. Minor was less "sad" and more "emotional" then.



...Also, you can never go wrong with Twisted Sister's Christmas Album. Classic.

amazon is selling a big collection of 13 hours of classical Christmas recordings in mp3 format called "Big Christmas Box" for just under 3$.... some classic major works, and several small vocal "consort" type things.. very legit versions, great value.
