Beardly Customs FIRST commissioned build!!!

as of today, this bass is FINISHED!

here are the final specs:

bubinga body
5 piece neck thru wenge/bubinga neck
bubinga headstock
pau ferro fretboard
cocobolo nut and bridge
37" scale length
tuned F#/B/E/A/D
24 stainless steel frets
black hardware
Hipshot Ultra Lite tuners
Bartolini MK5CBC pickups
Bartolini NTMB-918F 18v preamp
Darkhorse strings
11.2 lbs on the bathroom scale

She plays and sounds amazing. Crystal clear and very punchy.

Beautiful work. I like the idea of carving the completion date in the neck. I might steal that one. A few questions:
1. What is your fread board radius? Or is it flat?
2. How did you and your customer decide on the bridge?

1. the radius is 20"
2. i always used cocoboolo bridges on mine and really like it. it was a suggestion and he said roll with it.

i stole the "birth date" on the back of the head from Carl Thompson. he just stamps the numbers into the wood though.

Beautiful work! I love the curly bubinga grain in the neck - looks so classy against the wenge. I've got a question, if you got a chance to play it before sending it out: how do the 37" scale and low F# feel/sound? Obviously the longer scale enables the use of thinner-gauge strings with a resultingly more-complex tone, but I'm curious as to your impression of its usability and sound.

I did give it a good try out after i finished it and it sounds like a piano. The longer scale allows the F# to "work" and it also makes the other strings sound clear and defined. The longer scale does come with an adjustment period from playing a standard 34" scale, but you get used to it very quickly.

Total dittos! I would also suggest smaller sized screws (or countersink them into the wood) as those screw heads just seem to protrude out at you. I really like your 'neck-thru but put the headstock on later' approach - never thought of that!
