The Brice is a good quality bass. I have one and I also owned a real Hofner in the early 80's. To me the Brice is better than that bass was. The Brice is much more solidly built than the Hofner was, and for the price can't be beat. And with the right rounds can have a more modern sound too. I haven't had the feedback issues with it like I had with the Hofner either. I have had SIT Power Flats groundwounds and GHS Boomers on it for a time but I've since ordered LaBella Beatle flats for it.
I also had the chance to try a Contemporary Hofner bass at a Sam Ash store recently. I came away impressed with the quality and sound of the CT bass, even with the rounds that were on it. The staple pups had a better tone than those old bar magnets that were on mine.
