There's nothing remarkable or beautiful about the OP's bass, IMO. It looks like the living room floor in a house I rented once.

Honest to God, this obsession with playing wear really has me flummoxed. I don't want to dump on anyone, but guys who put that kind of wear on a guitar are never the ones who are enchanted by it.



I'll take something that looks like this EVERY time over something like the OP's example -

The OPs bass picture is not "beautiful" to me, but if I had owned that bass and played the heck out of it for many years, it may look like an old, well aged, friend to me. And I know this is heresy to many, but I would want to take that bass to Pat Wilkins for a refinish. ;)

I think it's true that we are sort of conditioned to see certain things as beautiful. I worked in a furniture factory for a while when I was young, and I think that gave me an appreciation for wood and natural finishes. Natural finishes on basses tend to be my favorite, and most of the "beautiful" basses to me are one's with nice body wood and a finish that shows off the wood grain.

As Mellow said earlier, though, there are TONS of really nice looking instruments out there. :)
