Bebop record suggestions

Im in the middle of studying walking bass and jazz on both my upright and electric. However, i dont really know much records that i could reference, transcribe and study walking bass lines. My lesson teacher told me that bebop records are excellent for those. Are there some must listened bebop albums to study jazz/walking bass?

A few of my favorites:

• Charlie Parker – The Legendary Dial Masters (released 1996, recorded 1946-1947) with Ray Brown, Red Callender, Vic McMillan, and Tommy Potter on bass
• Sonny Rollins – Way Out West (1957) with Ray Brown on bass
• Thelonious Monk – Brilliant Corners (1957) with Oscar Pettiford and Paul Chambers on bass

Any album that has the name ‘Mingus’ on the cover.

Modal jazz - Wikipedia
Modal Jazz is a reaction (perhaps) to Bop.
Bop characteristics include much chords & harmony.
Modal Jazz? Not so much.


That said, you cannot go wrong studying Paul Chambers.

Bebop Paul Chambers, Mingus, George Duvivier ,Walter Booker ,Milt Hinton , Percy Heath , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (especially with Oscar Peterson), Buster Williams , Oscar Pettiford , Ron Carter , Ray Brown had great walking lines. Your teacher can start you on how they were smooth going through changes. Ray Brown and Rufus Reid have some nice books on upright. You can listen to even today jazz walking bassist like George Mraz, Eddie Gomez, Stanley Clarke, Christian McBride but I get the idea you want solely bebop players but Carter,Buster did take it to the 60 and now more modern jazz.
