BECAUSE THERE IS NO PA!!!

Going direct doesn't have to be a punishment.

As long as you have a DI that you like the sound of and assuming that your cabs aren't a huge color factor in your end tone. Just get a DI that you really like the sound of, or make sure your amp/setup can send a DI after the EQ/effects if that's what you need.

I understand that no one wants to lose control over their tone out front, but it doesn't have to kill the gig for you if you're smart about it. I WISH I didn't have to carry a huge amp and cab setup to make sure I'm heard properly, but I do and I have the best setup I can for doing so.

I've been thinking about searching out a great cab sim for my pedals or amp's DI to send a "colored" DI signal to the house if I ever have this issue. I've been DI'd with a fuzz and no HPF on the mains. I was told it sounded fine but I have my doubts.

Ahem...*cough**cough*....:p

Actually, I think we're a little more hat than cattle sometimes...but have had a few good ones.

San Antonio has a pretty thriving metal scene. Seems like everybody there and in Corpus Christi really likes metal.

Payday has definitely shrunk. Even in the past 10 years. A gig that we used to get 450$ for now nets us 300$, etc.

Here in Toronto in the late Seventies / early Eighties I was making in the range of $200-300 a night. I wouldn't even bother unless the pay was at least $100. Then the bars wanted to stay open to 2AM and that meant lost audiences. Folk would get a baby sitter and go out for supper. After that they had to wait for the new start time of 10 -10:30PM before the band began to play. Those who bothered to stay had to be home in time to get the baby sitter home. At 2AM the bars were virtually empty. Add to that smoking indoors became illegal. The music scene basically died.

Nowadays I just go out to play with folk who I enjoy. I don't worry about pay - i'm retired with a good pension - and I've regained my love of the music. :D

The Agrestic thing?
Your homework assignment is to go watch "Weeds" on streaming netflix.

Ah yes. I hear its a good show. I don't have netflix (or internet or cable) so my wife and I buy DVD box sets and just watch those. Were trying to find the complete Wire box set for cheap on eBay. I'll have to add Weeds to the list of shows to catch up on.
