That is, hello TalkBass! I'm username The Courier, but you can call me Courier if you'd like. I've been lurking for about a week now, and finally decided to try joining the active community here.
The pertinent information about myself, I'm a 25 and I'm a returning bassist. I got my first bass (a GSR200) a little over ten years ago, during my freshman year of high school. It was that phase where everybody (or at least a lot of people) wanted a guitar on Monday, to hit the battle of the bands on Wednesday, and to be a rock star by Sunday. Anyways, like a lot of teens I only played enough to do a few songs with friends here and there, and kind of took the whole thing for granted. I went to lessons, but didn't take them seriously. I'd practice to varying degrees, but with no consistency and no structure. Eventually, I accepted the cold, harsh reality that a teenager could not, in fact, become a rock star in the span of one year, let alone without serious commitment to the craft.
Fast forward to 2013. There are shorts spans in between in which I'd play a little, but nothing substantial. That is, until this summer. An arduous moving process reminded me I owned a bass guitar, so I decided to give it another go. The Ibanez isn't in great shape, but it's playable. The stars continued to align in that the new living arrangements include a basement garage nobody intends to use. I tracked down my amp (a guitarist friend had kindly kept it in decent shape for me), and vowed to maybe take things a little more seriously this time.
Ok, significantly more seriously
So yeah, here I am three and a half weeks later, a bit better than I was a few weeks ago. It's a little humbling, re-learning things you once knew, and regaining strength/dexterity you once had, but it is not a fruitless endeavor. So far, that's my story as a bassist. I'm hoping there's plenty more to this story this time around!
So once again, hello TalkBass!
