Beginner Amp

Forgive my 'newness', but I'm just getting started vicariously for my daughter who has expressed an interest in bass. She's a music major and proficient on about a dozen different instruments, so not your typical novice.

I'd like to buy her some decent starting gear without going into bankruptcy. I'll probably build her bass guitar (Fender Jazz Bass style) but I'm clueless on the amp since they're such different animals than guitar amps.

Would I do OK with the GK MB115? That's about where I'd like to be price wise. Leaning toward a combo for portability and simplicity. Of course other recommendations would be appreciated.

imho,i think a tad more money for gig worthy used gear makes more sense long term......entry level stuff is only marketable to beginners,and there's plenty out there new,and cheap......

if she upgrades or changes direction,stuff that a working player would use is easier to sell and will hold value better than entry stuff......ymmv

Thanks for the comeback. Where would I look for the most economical of gig-worthy gear (amp / head)?

The bass itself is no problem. In this case I'd use Warmoth parts, so I'd expect the end product to be better than OEM. I'd have no problem with fit, finish, and setup either. It's just the amp that's got me wondering.

the amp forum will give you some insight on what guys here like/dislike....trust/mistrust,and the amps pre-amps for sale forum is a good place to look.....
