Beginner Bass

I've read a lot of people on here talking about SX bass. I haven't got one yet but might soon. Worth looking into anyway. My first is a MIM Fender Jazz. I think it was definitely worth paying a little more for something that will last a while. No regrets. Good luck.

SX are pretty good basses, I own one and waiting for a second one to be delivered tomorrow, but I would not recommend a complete beginner to get one, some of them have certain issues that might discourage a novice. (buying a used one would be a good idea)

Not sure what kind of issues you refer to but the first thing I did when I had no clue was after playing it a day or so took it to the local music shop for intonation and a better set of strings. The factory strings pretty much sucked. IMO I would suggest all new players to do the same as it is very much worth the small price to pay to have it set up correctly from the beginning.
