Behringer VT999 & VT911: Tube sound for less?

So, here are 2 tube pedals from Behringer:

I am not fan of Behringer, and till this day thought, that i will never own one. But now i see cheap way to get overdriven tube sound. SOUND, not emulation.
Question is, how good it is? Have anyone tried one? Is it good with bass? Any clips (except those on their website)
 
Been researching this pedal on here. Not much info except one review and a lot of guys bashing Behringer in general. Anyone using it? Guy from the review stated he changed the tube and input cap so it works better with bass. Sounds cool. Would like to hear more about it especially if it's wort the money and if it HAS to be modded.
 
I bought one of these to play around with and use it with my Bass, but the same mod will surely work for guitar as well.

You will absolutely have to modify this pedal as it is totally useless out of the box. If you are not a tinkerer- buy something different. Here is the modifications I did and it is now a useable pedal.
