I find the mockery of the illiterate by a moderator to be disheartening. Not everyone grew up in hoity-toity England and got direct access to the language. Snob.

Being able to read = WIN

I blame the lack of literary skills on the extreme popularity of video games. I read A LOT, and I have a significantly larger vocabulary than some of my friends (not to brag). I really liked the new addition to the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Anyone else read that ? Brisingr is awesome.
Yeah, it's kinda sad really. I mean kids are getting lower test scores because they just can't read well enough, which is reflecting poorly upon the schools, teachers, parents, districts, etc.

You know how you occasionally read a post where it's apparent that the doofus who typed has it has completely missed the point of most of the rest of the thread? It's a fairly widespread phenomenon most of the year.
I haven't done a quantitative study, but I suspect that the frequency of this right here on TalkBass increased significantly over the Christmas holiday period.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so, because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like, such as and... I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children.
Actually, knowing how to read is fundamental to being able to do things like, use the internet, play a video game, etc.
So just to be clear what we are talking about here is reading comprehension. Being able to read is a given if you are on a message board and you have the ability to compose a post.
Furthermore, reading makes the world go round, or is that solar wind. Maybe gravity. Whatever the case I am astounded that it has taken everyone this long to correct the OP. Its a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
on another note, I recieved a warning from a talkbass mod for not censoring my profanity well enough. Out of respect to the mods I won't repeat what the word was or how I tried to get around the filter, but I googled my word and it happens to be the first name of an ancestor to the throne of Nalahi. Does this mean I can sue TB for a violation of my civil rights.
