Cool, I just learned a new slang word.

I sometimes forget the internet is a predominantly American based , naff is a British term meaning something's a bit low quality/tacky/cheap looking.

I use old strings to fashion a cat o' nine tails to use on my cat o' one tail. She likey. She knows it's coming when I change strings, because she sits and waits for the old strings to come off and new ones to go on. She makes it a lot of work so she must pay the price.

If you own your house, you could turn your window frames into bass harps. String them vertically from top to bottom. Wire in a few piezos, hook up 3 or 4 SVTs, and play your house for the neighbors.

Not to mention that sweaty gunk will keep the solder from sticking. Denatured alcohol is your friend. A container large enough to hold the (coiled) strings that seals well, drop in the strings and pour in just enough alc to cover and let it sit for an hour or so. Run through some warm soapy water, then a quick rinse and through dry, and you are ready.

Also soldering stainless is something of an art and requires more heat than your average iron produces to get the solder to stick. Get a MAPP torch, some stainless specific flux, and some quality silver solder. Some of the plumbers solders will work, the higher the silver content the better.

Once I made a set of Newton balls with a couple old strings for a school project. Should have snagged a picture, dang it. Functionality was slightly suspect IIRC, but it looked pretty BA.

I build fishing rods to order and one day a lady called and asked if I could make her one of my little 4.5' flea weight rods, without any guides. She wanted me to do a fancy weave on it incorporating the words "love whip".

I didn't ask...
