Being Ignored By David at SGD Lutherie

I can't believe that I am still dealing with a $205 refund from a canceled purchase on 12-23-2010.
Long story short is I ordered a set of pickups from David Schwab at SGD pickups and he was supposed to be getting some new style covers with the logos on them so I decided to wait for them as I wasn't in any hurry and after a couple of months he wasn't able to get them and offered to make some up in the old style covers,by then I had decided to sell the bass and asked him for a refund but he had some big epoxy issue and was back logged and didn't have the $205 to refund at the time so I have been waiting paitently,he did make a $68 partial refund on 9-8-2011 stating that he would get me the rest of my funds faily soon, well it's 3/2012 and I have sent two PM's to him over the last couple of weeks with no response so here I am once again wasting my time dragging TB in to this petty drama that could be entirely avoided with good professional buissiness practices.
I know that he is very helpful here on TB but that still doesnt give David the right to take $205 from me and leave me empty handed then agree to a full refund and only pay me $68 after more than 1 year of waiting.
David please just refund me my $137 and stop ignoring my PMs.
Steve

Thanks for the support and the PMs describing similar issues with David's lack of professionalism when it comes to dealing with problems and refunds.
This is the second time that I have posted on TB about this refund, the first post was shutdown by a moderator.
Just want my $137 refund and I will be sure to stay clear.
Steve

Steve, please send messages to my email, instead of to my inbox here. It fills up quickly and I don't always get a chance to read everything in it. I might have deleted your message by mistake. I wasn't ignoring you, but I didn't see it. Sending me a message here is not the way to do business with someone. I have a website and several email address associated with it. This is a pubic web forum.

I just sent you a PM. I'll have some more of the refund to you today.

The reason the other thread was shut down is the way you go about things is not professional either. So don't start that behavior again. You are always leaving out your involvement in the whole situation and shifting all the blame to me. That was explained in the other thread. You were distorting the facts to make you look wronged.

I read the other thread.

It's absolutely inconceivable to me that anyone calling themselves a business could have such cash flow problems as to not immediately be able to refund $205. I'd argue that very fact tells me this is a hobby and NOT a business.

Not knowing the whole story, I'm still going to have to agree with this. Why is it an issue to refund such a small amount of money?

This is what I do full time. Hobbies are part time.

That's missing the point though. He wanted to wait for the pickups. He could have had them in a short time after he ordered them. But he insisted on waiting for the possibility of laster etching. Then he sold the bass and didn't need the pickups any more. That's disingenuous.

He kept glossing over that fact though. The fact that the thread was closed was because enough people didn't agree with him and started that to the mods.

But he will have his refund today.

Did you read the other thread? Do you know the facts in the matter?

I read the other thread. You said on July 23, 2011 that he would be getting a refund. It is March 2012. He apparently has not yet received a refund. Are there any other relevant facts to consider? (I don't think that whether he wanted to wait for certain pickup covers is relevant at this point, if you agreed more than 8 months ago to give him a refund.)

First off you don't order something, tell the person you want to wait, and then cancel the order later. That's not cool. This is why I don't even give refunds on custom orders. It's like going to a place and having them order parts for your car, and then you sell the car. That's not their problem.

I told him he would get it in three installments. He got the first one. Then things were slow for a while. I'm a very small business, so all operating expenses and paying my bills comes out of pickup sales. I'm not DiMarzio or Duncan.

And as I said he needed to email me and not post things here or at my PM box, since that's often full. It's 99% full right now. When it filled up last week I envied it and must have missed his PM. But I read every email I get and respond to all of them in a timely manner. People usually comment on that too.

It also paints an untrue picture of people being unhappy with my business practices, even though you don't see the several hundred customers I have had coming here and complaining, right? So far in the past seven years I have given two refunds. And in both cases it was not just a standard order.

This is wrong info I had nothing to do with the the original post getting closed,it was closed by a moderator for review.
I am glad that you appear to be handling it a little better but what I think is stirring everone is that you will not admit any fault whatsoever.
I will admit that I did change my mind and backout after months of waiting and getting rid of the bass I ordered them for but you agreed to the refund and you have had to fiqure out by now when don't deliever in a timely manner you are just leaving yourself wide open for hassles.

Steve, I had many people PM me to say they sided with me and told the moderators such. So it isn't wrong info. It was closed after that. I also sent all relevant facts to the mods when they asked me about it. They didn't reopen the thread, did they?

What incorrect is you stating I'm ignoring you, since I'm talking to you right now. I didn't see your last PM so that wasn't intentional. I currently have 494 PMs in my inbox. How many are in yours? So don't assume I ignored you. Ask. It's less drama that way.

Do me a favor and respond to my PM I just sent you with your full name and paypal email address, so I can process your refund. That will save me the time of digging through emails.

OK, I read the other thread and this one... Regardless of any other details, you agreed to give the refund. When you agree to give a refund you need to do so in a timely fashion. You can not agree to give a refund then complain that you agreed to give the refund or complain that the purchaser asked for the refund. If you did not want to give the refund you should have said no, not said yes then failed to refund the money. When you agree to give a refund, pay it promptly. I know of no other company that would make someone wait 8 months for a refund. 8 months for a refund is 8 months too long.

I really don't understand why you would let a full PM inbox cause problems like this for your business. If your inbox is full, just empty it. The forum allows you to download all of your PMs in various formats so you can archive the old ones if you need to.

OP, Since the end of 2010?..........I don't even want to hear it.......(don't take it personal though)

I put in an order in december of 2009 (and have the paypal transaction to prove it)...... I have been patient, but are beginning to feel like some schmuck now.

Op, So you're getting your refund now???? This is BullS#*T!

Dave, you need to straighten me up here, what's the deal?!?!

It's been well over 2 years......and don't bring up the pre part, cause that
has been cancelled. I'm beyond livid right now.....does it take a thread to get real action?!?!?!?!

I'm through with repeated responses like, "Soon", "next week", "two weeks","real soon", or any other life's issue that's going on.......

I don't care if I sound like an ass at this point, i'm sick and tired of being put on the shelf, go ahead, tell everybody, I got it wrong......

(I don't think that whether he wanted to wait for certain pickup covers is relevant at this point, if you agreed more than 8 months ago to give him a refund.)

Sure it is. Look at it this way. If you were to order a set of pickups from me today, I would then start to make those pickups for you. I don't keep them pre made because I make so many styles, and never know what people will order. I tried it once and it didn't work very well. It ends up tying up a lot of parts and such on unsold pickups.

Then because he wanted to wait while I was looking into getting the covers laser etched, his order money was long spent on keeping the business going.

Most pickup makers do not give refunds. They will do exchanges however. Most have a window in which you can return a pickup for exchange. In this case he hadn't received the pickups yet, but I did build them, just didn't install them into cases.

Now I wasn't being difficult. I told him I would give him a refund, but it won't be right away.

This whole point is moot anyway, because as soon as he sends me the into I just requested I will give him the rest of the refund.
