Being old and weak, I have a question.

I have a combo amp that will probably be the last thing I buy amp-wise. My issue is the weight when carrying it. I hope to not do it too often, but, you never know. I was wondering about adding some handles to it to augemnt the single strap handle on top of the amp.

I doubt very much I'd go to the extent of cutting in to the box to add cup handles, so would people go with a few more strap style in better locations, or the big ol' handles with a base plate?

A casual question for peeps in the know.

It's the lifting in and out that is the main issue. I can carry it fairly easily, but, it's a bit bulky for the single top strap handle.

Big baseplate handles are definitely superior, but IMO, not worth the effort for this application. Strap handles will be plenty fine. And yes to the folding two-wheeler, too.

Edit: My advice is to use through-bolts with nuts and washers to attach the handles -- resist the temptation to just use wood screws.

Or use T-nuts, be aware of what’s behind the screws…

Strap handles aren't so great for handle each side lifting though. If that's your requirement then I suggest you consider surface mount handles like these. Invalid Link Removed I concur about the advantages of T nuts or through bolts if the cabinet is thick enough, and one can always put a ply backing plate in there. Wood screws will tend to work loose in time.

Oh, I know for sure there are lighter, more powerful combos, but, that's money not well-spent for the limited amount I'm going to be using the amp.

Add roller wheels and a set of handles... Amazon has these $8.99 for the handles, $21.00 for the casters. Makes life much easier I have two Ampeg BAv2 combos (a 210 and 115). I added the casters as soon as I bought them, the top handles work for me. I do have a set of 15" PA speakers and I added these handles and they work great. Best thing for your back is a roadie (or a couple of young guys in the band).

I have this one. Sometimes I get puzzled about how to open it up, but it's light and folds up into a fairly compact size.

Looks like I’m in a similar situation…………

I solved my problems with these :

Two GK 112 cabs of only 25 pounds each
Bass amp head of less than 5 pounds
Little aluminum folding cart for the cabs with two small strap binders
And I also added a top handle on both of my cabs (the existing side handles were not very useful)

Oh, and the bass standing beside is 7.5 pounds !

That's on my Reverb list (as I'm not gigging yet). It was a no-brainer. I have a Genzler 112 Bass Array-2 and an NC-212T with a Magellan 800 head for an amp. Full Helix floorboard. Gig bag (no set on one yet, but looking backpack-ish. Using a cart without hesitation. Us "veterans" have to work smarter, not harder. More strength for the music!

T nuts are the ticket if you have the ability to install them, and I have used those spring-loaded handles before and they are great. I would recommend one on each side of the cab, that way you can use both hands evenly to lift the combo cabinet.
