Ben Lindsey P-Bass in the works!

After much hemming and hawing over what bass to go for next, I finally put in an order with fellow TB'er Ben Lindsey (www.madisonsmusicstore.net) for a custom P-Bass! It's loosely based on the Fender Pino Palladino signature bass, with a mishmash of 60s and 70s details. If you haven't seen Mr. Lindsey's work, check out this thread.

Here are the specs:

60s-style P-Bass with Jazz-width neck (and some 70s details)
Alder body, quartersawn tinted maple neck
Dark rosewood fretboard with aged clay dots
Nitro Fiesta Red over sunburst
Slightly aged (2 or 3 on a scale of 10)
4-ply nitro tortoise pickguard
Thumb rest in 70s position, above the E string
Lindy Fralin pickup, 5% overwound
'75 reissue bridge
Gotoh Res-O-Lite vintage-style tuners
D'Addario round wounds

You'll love it...my Ben Lindsey basses slay my real vintage Fenders and are a bargin at the price point. Ben's work is really first rate and he is a heck of a nice guy...looking foward to my new custom design bass thats in the works...Congrats!!!!!

Just a guess, but I'd bet you're just about ready to post pics of your new bass. The waiting is kind of fun (in a days-before-Christmas sort of way), but the playing is much better.

Beautiful bass. I've got a Ben Lindsey sunburst 60's jazz that blows any real 60's jazz out of the water. He's the only guy who makes relics that look like the real thing. How much did that one set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, I can't say enough good things about this bass. I happened to have a show the night it arrived, and I got a lot of compliments on the sound. The Fralin pickup has the perfect classic P-Bass sound, with a thumping low end and just enough bite and attack in the highs.
The finish is fantastic. Just about the nicest Fiesta Red (over sunburst!) I've ever seen. The neck finish is smooth and glossy, slightly worn-looking, with none of that stickiness that sometimes comes with gloss finishes.
Lots of nice little details. This bass is a combination of some of my favorite 60s and 70s-era Fender features. The worn nitro tortoise pickguard is perfect, the Gotoh Res-o-lite tuners are very smooth, and the position markers look nice and aged.
Overall, I'm surprised at how comfortable and broken in it feels. The neck is extremely fast, the weight and balance are perfect. I highly recommend Mr. Lindsey's work if you're in the marked for a custom vintage-style instrument.
