I really dig the fingerstyle sound in the first video posted. Not saying the slap is bad, but the finger-style is very nice. I love EBMM basses, but if you're going for a boutique style bass at a reasonable price, the Benavente might just be your ticket. You will always be able to pick up a Stingray. Get the bass you posted and if you're still craving that classic Stingray tone, look at the used market. For $900 you can easily find a Stingray.

+1 My buddy got a killer deal on his used mint condish ray. There will always be deals on them. But that boutique bass looks awesome...and the clips sound sick too....

You cant go wrong with a Benavente (I have three), Chris's attention to detail is #1, the electronics are very flexible and unlike some other Boutique builders - Chris actually builds his basses from the ground up - only hardware and electronics are outsourced.

he's an awesome guy, and his instruments rock. i came -this- close to pulling the trigger on a 7 string single cut of his a few years ago, but i didn't have the dough. still want to get one some day. he's at the very top of my very short list of builders i want to buy an instrument from eventually that i have yet to do so.

this one - almost bought it at the namm show in 2002 (i think) - even considered selling a bass for the dough (i've never sold a bass in ~25 playing). it ended up going to hippiesandwich (member here) although don't know if he has it anymore

I had a vintage vortex 5, and it is the one bass I regret letting go. If I could buy it back, I would. Very quality instrument. OFf white with a maple neck.....I miss it

As you've said, if you don't like it, you can easily flip it and not take a hit on the price. Then with that cash you can buy your Stingray, mod it to your hearts content and have some spare cash sitting in your pocket .

Ah no man. As much as I like this bass, Im in need of a 5 banger, and I had to finish my rig. Im currently looking at Laklands.
