Beowulf- Holy Animation?!?!

Just saw the brand new adaptation of Beowulf last night, and WOW was it good.

I was only vaguely familiar with the plot, as I've (surprisingly) never gotten around to reading the entire book, but I thought it was a great epic.

Above all, however, the animation was un-friggan-real!!! It actually took me about 10 minutes into the movie to realize it was animated. As far as I'm concerend it blew every disney/pixar movie out of the water. Really advanced stuff. Anyone else see it and agree?

Haven't seen it yet, but I want to. Mainly because the poem (it is an epic poem BTW) spawned the entire fantasy genre as we know it. Also the motion-capture animation is the same technology that they used to make gullum (aka smegal) in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Simply amazing stuff.

DAMN YOU. I'm stuck here at work pulling overtime. I wanted to see it last night, but knew I'd be way too tired to come in today if I tried to go see it. Only 9pm or 9:45pm start times were available.

My lead guitarist saw it in 3D in Ann Arbor's Showcase Cinema. He said it blew his mind the things they can do with computers now. BAH HUMBUG DAMN THIS JOB

I saw it last night in 3D--pretty cool and definitely very impressive visually.


I've also read the poem and enjoyed it a lot (the heaney translation). They kind of made up a lot of stuff in the movie, but that's okay.

I've seen images of Grendel and his mother in the trailers. ***? Grendel looks like ass (read: not how he is described AT ALL), and his mother is human in form...


P.S. To those who didn't like the poem, have you read Grendel. It was written in the '70's by John Gardner and is Grendel's recounting of the tale. It is, by far, one of the greatest novels written.

Edit: Also, Beowulf sleeps with Grendel's mother, who then bares the dragon? What?!

This movie was bad ass... I can see how it wouldn't be as good in 2D though... and Angelina Jolie is soooo hot.. want to touch the heinie...

It's so amusing to see people getting soo geeked about animation. It's funny how society these days are drawn to cartoons, much less cartoon adaptation of a classic, which can't even tell the story. Instead, it has to make room for nudity, sex scene, and hollywood's dramatic license. It's a joke.:scowl:

The technical graphics are quite stunning though.:hiding:

Agreed. Its funny, because I had people demanding I go see Transformers... Well, I finally got around to seeing it, & all I saw was another Micheal Bay movie, w/ big robots...

And, we all know Pearl Harbor sucks.
