Bergantino IP112 - Holy @*#&!

Hrothgar,
You can get mucho bass with the Fender TBP-1. It also has the first built-in-amp DI I've had that sounds as good as my Countryman. We opened for Billy Currington (country artist) last Thursday for a big outdoor show and the FOH engineer commented on how good the bass tone was. I had to talk them out of using thier Radial DI's since I run a wireless and everything is wired up in my rack. They were happy with the TBP-1 direct sound.

Bob

Thanks for the suggestion. Ultimately, I'd like a pre I can throw in my gig bag. That way it's just one trip from car to stage. Gives me more time to help the drummers with their gear. I'll certainly check it out, though. At this point, I'll stay open for new possibilities.

I've heard this is great for upright, but does it perform well for electric, as well?
Yeah! I use it with an IP310. The hi-end shops that sell them are used to dealing with pros so most allow returns. Jive Sound, Sweetwater, Washington Professional Systems. It's only about $429. is 8.5x8.5x 1.75 fits in a padded tamborine bag. I will be writing a review here soon. It is clear and warm too hard to imagine. The Basstasters clip is quite accurate. Hope you have good sound for your computer.

So, anyway, for spits and giggles, I borrowed my buddy's DI last gig and plugged directly into the IP. Now, THAT's a beautiful sound! :hyper: All that lovely bass, perfectly harmonious highs... just maybe a little louder and meatier. Hmm..310? Line driver, perhaps?

It is the True Voice that you are hearing, I believe. That, and the particular tube you are using. The low end roll off is definitely there, and less of an issue with the larger IP cabs. But I would try a different preamp with the IP112 first. That cab has tons of lows, but you've got to feed it right.

I'm confident it was the True Voice that I was hearing. B/c when I plug straight ino the Berg I get all the lows I need and then some. I've used the IP rig on plenty of gigs without a preamp and I'm going to go back to that and just cross my fingers that the Line Driver comes out sooner than later. Though, when I last talked with Jim about a week ago there was still "no-telling when." :bawl:

Yes, I like it a lot with electric. :bassist:

So how about compared to the Line Driver? I read somewhere in your posts that the TD-100, as is the tendency with tube pres, accentuates the mids (hope I read that right)...? After my experience with the TV, I'm a little wary investing in another pre that won't reproduce the same bass the IP can put out without a pre in the signal chain . With your experience with both pres would you say they are similar in their sound in this regard? Or should I just wait for the Driver? Personally, I'm leaning toward the latter.

If I may but in Tom did say in an earlier thread that the TV rolls off and boosts mid. The Summit is like the Millenia a hi-end pre that is clear and the tubishness to me is in it's warmth. It is not fat and tubey like an Alembic. It's more like hi-end tube stereo clarity. A kind of musical warmth. In a few days I will have their Feq-50 which is a paraeq the same physical size as the TD-100. I will let you know how it is. The cool thing besides all the eq and choice of -10 or +4 tube and SS outputs it has a highpass filter set at 30 hz with a -6b rolloff. It's not variable like the line driver but with the other eq it should be fine. We will see. The TD-100 sounds like the IP direct but much louder present and warmer without losing any clarity. It sounds as flat as the IP.

I'm leaning toward waiting for the line driver, too, but the wait is killing me. I know how good my IP310 sounds with a decent preamp, and meanwhile I'm limping along with my Sansamp.

Without searching my previous posts, my recollection is that the TD-100 had more "alive", more complex, and more present mids compared to the U5, but I wouldn't really call the mids "boosted" as compared to a "flat" signal. Perhaps it draws a tad more attention to the mids, but relative to the TV, it would sound anything but boosted.

In fact, I find the TD-100 to be the closest thing I have to the line driver. I have to get them both back in my hands to do a true A/B, though. Todd VanSelus has my TD-100, and Jim has my line driver right now.

Tom.

Gentlemen!

There is a bergantino ip112 and extension for sale locally, and i'm very intereseted to say the least. I have one question if anyone still has this rig... the power section gives out 2x500 watts, but the extension cab is only 300 watts. does that mean you have to back it off a fair way? I know they were designed to be used together but I don't understand how the 300 watt extension fits the 500 watt power section.

You will be fine with a 300 watt cab that is about the rating of the drivers in it as it sets. The HT 112 cabs if Im correct where 300 watt cabs. You will have to adjust your volume according to listening to your speakers for farting out the same as any cabinet you would use with any setup.[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The pair works so well. The button in the back, cycles the DSP from one cab eq to two cab eq. Tom B. used his with the single cab setting with two cabs as it gives more bass. I like it too. For high high volume the reduced bass may get you more volume. You have to turn off the IP to cycle between the programs. Enjoy. It's one great design and setup. Oh, if there's no owner's instruction card, start with no bass eq on your preamp and dial up slowly. You'll be shocked! A bassist looked at my pre and saw that the bass knob was at 7:00 while huge bass was pouring out. The IPs will sound bad if you disregard this.

As they say, Jim Bergantino has discontinued more great designs than others have even fielded.

Thanks for your replies! Appreciate it. How do they go with the low B? I read this thread and heard good/bad. Depends on the preamp I guess. I come from an ampeg pf 800 background with 800w of trace elliot speakers. Will this keep up volume wise? That's my main concern about the extension cab.

Excellent on low B.

I can't tell you how it would compare to that rig. I & ultimately you would have to a/b them.
It is what it is. Is it the EX112 cab? You can compare speaker surface area however. 2x12 vs ?
