Bergantino NV158? ???

Per the above driver size question, my bad from a few weeks ago. I misunderstood the driver size. I just checked with Jim, and it is a 6" mid driver.

Maybe the OP can change the name of the thread. Sorry again.

I have no idea if this cab will be introduced, but it sounds like it would be a winner for those who want a small, lightweight 'old school meets modern' box. Probably amazing for those with moderate power all tube amps, and heads like the Streamliner or Orange Terror, or even the Aguilar TH500!

I wonder if he is using the same closed back midrange from the NV215 - it simplifies cab construction but they're not my favorite from a tonal standpoint. Better options available if you build a dedicated mid chamber. I love all the NVs but I always felt the mid driver was lacking in the 215. Maybe it will fare better with one per cab though. Regardless, I'm glad he is still interested in the NV side of the house.

I know he is investigating a new woofer and a different mid driver than used in the NV215 (again, with the goal of a more round, punchy low end and a bit more definition up top), but don't know more than that.

Actually, if JGR and myself had been beta testing this cab, not only would we have known what size the mid driver was but, also what it smells like and how well it plays with small children. Im just saying that we are very techy geeks. No detail is missed with a true geek man, every detail. :D

Sounds good to me. I just sold my NV215 but maybe I'll add a pair of these in its place.

The cab measurements are 24" high, 18" wide and 15" deep.
One cab has the same 15" that was used in the NV-215.. The other has the new 15" Ken is speaking of and you can hear a difference in the low mids... Both have the same midrange driver.. Punchy low end would be a great description, but overall I love the fullrange sound/tone of the cab itself.. Like I stated before, very strong and muscular.. My effects have better presence... One thing I realize is I'm not a fan of a cab with a tweeter or horn... Always found them to be alittle harsh to my ears at times... The Shuttle and ShuttleMax both sound great with these cabs when I have the gain control at 3:00 or more, nice tube sound/tone...

Nice dimensions. Hopefully he goes with the new woofer. Hey guys, science matters. If you find a builder who knows the science and is an actual player with a golden ear, you've found the man who can build your dream cab. There are so few people like that. I can think of maybe enough to count on one hand.

I obviously LOVE Jim's approach to cabinet design. IMO, he is probably the best 'cab voicer' that I've ever come across. He has a unique ear (IMO), true formal training and skill (every cab is a compromise, and he seems among the best at knowing when to compromise and when to not), and he has the good sense to get formal feedback on his designs (more as a final check and tweak) from players that are in the target population for the tonality and performance he is shooting for.

He also has enough sales volume to warrant OEM driver tweaks, which allows him to sculpt a cab's performance, size, etc. to pretty much exactly what he wants.

I personally don't need to know 'what drivers he uses', etc., and quite frankly, don't want to know. Based on his results in the past 15 years or so, his design process is pretty spot on to me:bassist:

Again, IMO the best 'ear' in the business regarding designing cabs with various target populations (e.g., NV, AE, HT, HD), and probably the best approach to maximizing the trade-offs between components,size, weight, performance in the business!

I completely agree. So successful are his designs at achieving musically interesting and effective cabs that I even GAS after ones that have nothing to do with my real needs or wants. They each just sound so good they create instant cab lust.

My NV215 gets all my no PA gigs these days. As much as I like the mid punch and richness of the NV610 the relatively extended lows and highs of the 215 make for a better room filling scenario, and translate a bit more nuance over the pile driver 610.

If the new ones have a bit more low mids they will make an insanely good one cab solution for the new old is the new new guys like me.

Yeah, the "more low mids" thing got my attention. The form factor sounds right as well. Never mind what I said about the 2x12 thing. All bets are off. I may have to open the wallet. But, I've got an AE410 and a similar LDS on the way soon so, who knows.
