Bergantino NV610 vs Ampeg 610

I hear you. I enquired with Bass Gear Direct here in Australia about an NV610 being put back into production only a month or so ago. He said he believed they may be doing a limited run later this year - not sure if he meant the NV610 or NV610T and not sure how accurate his info was. In the meantime he was steering me towards an NV412 - read up on forums here about the 412 v 610.

A week later the guy from Bass Gear Direct messaged me out of the blue, telling me of a second hand NV610 available on an Australian Bass Forum. (How cool is that ? A retailer happily losing a potential NV412T sale by directing me to a secondhand cab. I will be buying something else from them in the future) I luckily acquired it, and had it a couple of weeks now. it's everything that everyone said it was going to be, paired with my Heritage SVT.

So, I guess my point is, hang on, or make some enquiries and see if the rumour about the NV610 run I was told may have some truth to it.

I was unable to try one before buying, but I can suggest you should buy with confidence.

I'd prefer the NV610 and not the ported version but I am sure it still slays.

Is the NV610T ported ? I thought they just added a tweeter and crossover to the NV610 but didn't port it ? Could easily be wrong.

Sorry, I think that is right, its definitely got a tweeter not a port..not sure how much that changes the sound from the NV610?

Can't say I've ever played through an Ampeg 610, but I do have a Berg NV610 and used to have an Ampeg 810. Like I said, I used to have the 810. I kept the better sounding of the two. My Ampeg SVT VR sounds so much better through the Berg.

The ampeg I own 810 and the 610 are both made in China.
If your sound is ampeg but you would like to tame the low mids just a bit, the svt 810 can and will give you too much mid WOOOOH. The 610 will give you the sugary spot.
If your sound is that ampeg low mid and you are not sure if you need all those (higher) mids, the 410 hlf will fill in any 500/700 venue. If you want a nice clang and smooth controlled low-end to fill two (metal) guitar stacks, try it as well.
If you need more than the 410 hlf and no more bottom but a smooth roll off and good mids... the ampeg 610 from china is priced just right... but it is not as good as the ashdown cl-610 I couldn't afford at the time. The ashdown is way better than the berg 610. It is no surprise a cab like the berg is loved but overpriced in Europe.

So the ampeg 610 hlf is not HIFI at all. It is as forgiving as ampeg could be with my SVT-300 and B7KU. Just remember: play tight and ampeg will give that sterile poopie in the mix as well but with a lot of punch and THE RUMBLE!!!! OH MY GOD, THE RUUUUMMMMMBLE!!!!

The Bergantino NV610 is the best sounding Ampeg 810 ever made.

I've owned/gigged Ampeg 810's form across the years.

As of roughfully a year ago I acquired a used Bergantino NV610.

Absolutely the best bass cabinet my ears have heard!

The Bergantino is smaller, lighter, fuller, LOUDER, than the Ampeg's.

Hello!
I've seen this discussed before, but not recently. In the older threads, it seems to be during the era that the 610s weren't quite so hot.

I recently purchased an Ampeg 610 and while I am enjoying it, an NV610 just became available for a not-so-crazy price.

Is the difference enough that I should go for it? It's a craigslist find in a city an hour away, so I can't exactly try it out in a band setting, so what have your experiences been? I mostly play harder sort of post rock stuff. Which amp would be best for that?

I'd say get the NV610, I can honestly say, anything you use will sound good, also the Berg if bought used is a good value, you'll most likely be able resell it for what you paid for it .... oh if you do get it, spend the $$$ for the padded cover, it will be money well spent, IMHO
