Double Bass Berio interpretation

I am playing Bario's "Renderings" in an amateur orchestra and the bass section is struggling with a way to Play this section. One choice seems to be as double stops on an open string with a harmonic on the string above. Another suggestion has been to play the indicated harmonic on the noted open string. Anyone know the definitive answer?

Your second choice is correct. On the top line you play a harmonic at "C" on the G string. It will sound G two octaves higher than the open string. On the bottom line you play a harmonic at "G" on the D string, sounding D two octaves higher than the open string.
