Best 4 Fretless?

IMHO, just avoid combinations that scoop the mids. Mid scoop kills fretless tone big time. So some of the more "modern" sounding rigs that sound great with a Marcus Miller slap style won't sound as good on a fretless, unless they also allow you to remove that scoop.

Sorry, I know I didn't recommend any specific gear!

Cheers,
Liam

Is there such a thing as "best for Fretless" in the preamp / amp /cabs arena? :hmm: :bassist: :eyebrow: :help:

Not that I know off. ;)

I play fretless exclusively for a long time, and I never had the fretless aspect as criteria for an amp.

The most beautiful, most "singing" I ever heard my fretless bass sound was through a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp. :eyebrow:
That's a guitaramp... so don't know is this is constructive.
It's all subjective anyway. ;)

Just an amp that sounds good to you.
If you prefer an amp's sound with a certain fretted, it would also be the most ideal for your fretless playing.

Something that is clean, warm and tubey sounding would be your best bet.
Eden comes to my mind.

Heck, even an Ampeg SVT is wonderful with a fretless.

Although I prefer solidstate amps. (I play heavy music.)

And +1 to what Liam said.
Mids are your friends. (250 to 800hz)
