Best 5 string bass in 500usd

For $500 you can pick one of these up, and you won't get better value for your money.

I will buy used but still looking for something. First options i've got are an ibby sr305 and an ibby atk405

I would advise against getting the ibanez sr305. Personally, I wish I had saved a bit more money and gotten one of the better models. The low B just isn't that great. It should be noted, however that mine is a 2005 so they may be better now. YMMV and all of that.

The EBMM SUB 5s are good value instruments from what I hear.

There are a few good used five strings in that price range, it really comes down to the buyers personal preferences; there is also the option of getting a 4 string and tuning it BEAD if you're not really going to be using the G string.

OP, do you prefer a thin neck or a thicker neck?

A more vintage aesthetic (Fender) or more modern (Spector)?

I personally don't care for Ibanez basses due to their neck profile, much too thin for my big hands.

If you like more substantial necks and a more modern look, the NS-20005 listed in the classifieds used to be mine; it is VERY punchy and present, especially after the $300 worth of pickups and electronics upgrades, and at $425 shipped it's one of the best deals currently on TB!
