Best active bass

I've been looking for a good bass with active electronics for a while now. I need to keep the price at about $350. I'm playing a mix of a lot of different metal from Blind Guardian to Texas Hippie Coalition, I'm kinda leaning towards the Dean Hillsboro single. I know there's others out there, what do y'all recommend.

Schecter has awesome basses for the price, and judging by the pros who play them, it seems they are especially built for hard rock and metal. The neck-through provides great sustain, the neck is smooth, and the EMG pick-ups have a lot of variability. I own the Stilleto Elite 4 ($500 new in 2006) and I have a hard time finding a bass that is worth upgrading from it. They look BA too.

I listen to similar stuff. I'd suggest a Stingray type of bass they have good grit and bottom while still maintaining the treble frequencies also humbuckers are ideal for distortion.

So go for a Hillsbro or maybe a Sterling SB14.

I play a ATK305 myself.

Yes, those are real USA EMG pickups in there. Grab it before it goes back up to $700.

I've got an Ibanez BTB. It's a great bass and I think you can get them used pretty cheaply.

I am stumped then my ATK is the best active I've played so far. Besides a BC Warlock with the double P pickups but, it was a four stringer.


On second thought I think you can snag a Warwick Rockabass active Corvete used for around $350 on evilbay.

Might I also suggest a Yamaha RBX375.

Very limited choices for such little cash. Ibanez sr300 and ESP Ltd b154dx would be my pick in that price catagory.

I don't know any good active basses for that price. If you want a good active bass, then plan on spending at least $500.00 or more.

I got my ATK for $325 don't tell me you can't get a good bass at any price Used is more for your money and basses are made better than those of previous generations of bassists. Also there's more companies which equal more choices so don't tell me or anyone you can't get a good bass at any price range.

(I'm not angry at you I just get steamed over comments like that.)

I have the Fender MIM version of that and they are really nice, even at the higher price . There are also a couple of active Squier Jaguars that you should play while you are there: the VM Special has an active bass boost EQ, the VM Special HB has a single humbucking pickup and a three band EQ. All three are in your budget. If you are the sort to worry that some things might be too cheap then the Deluxe Active Jazz would be the way to go since the two Jags are scarily cheap. Truth be told the active EQ does not add much to the price of production so there is no reason for an active bass to be much more expensive than a passive.
