Best Amp for Hard Alternative Prog Rock?

Have to have enough power since we are 2 guitarist, 1 drummer and me.

so which is the best/good amp?

Well it depends on the tone you're after, but Ampeg and GK stand out in my mind for rock. I've never heard one in person, but some Mesa amps are supposed to sound aggressive (400+ and Carbine I think).

I personally would have a slightly overdriven amp (a valve preamp helps with this), and just dig in

As for volume, there's no hard and fast rule, but for $2000 you can get something that can cope easily.

I'd look for an Ampeg SVT-CL head and SVT-810E cabinet; its the benchmark; you won't need any more power.

Using a Spector, right? Well, a Marshall tube amp with a 4X12 is the standard for prog (IMO), and you might be able to get that in your budget. Sunn/Fender 300 is another good head. The Ampeg 8X10 will always be great for rock, and an old SVT head would be good too.

Try out as many amps as you can,and get the one you like best.There is no "best " anything.

Try an SVT stack first, if that doesn't float your boat then start looking at other amps.
