Best Bass D.I.

I am looking into purchasing a bass D.I. pedal.
The pedals I was looking at was the:
Seymour Duncan-Paranormal Bass Direct Box
Mxr-M80 Bass D.I.+
Sansamp bass driver di
Eden wtdi preamp
I was leaning towards the Mxr because of the color switch and the distortion sound but I am also very interested in the Eden but don't know much about and was just look for some advice and what would be the best purchase.
I play an Ibanez sr500 through a Hartke 1415 combo if that helps.
Also if anyone has any other pedals to suggest please do.

Out of that list, I'd probably lean towards the Sansamp myself. They're well built and sound pretty good. I think the only negative is that they do colour your sound quite a bit.

I just recently ordered an Aguilar Tone-Hammer, I'd recommend it if I'd already tried it, but I haven't, just going on what I've read from others that have used it.

The MXR-M80 was ok when I tried it, sounds good, but the battery compartment seemed weak.

I have a sansamp programmable, and its cool, but it doesn't have a very good "clean" sound. I've heard great things about the mxr.

If you want the sound of your bass, the Countryman Type 85. If you want to CHANGE the sound of your bass, that's a different story, to me.

How would you guys compare the mxr to the sansamp when the pedal is disengaded?

I don't think there is a 'best' on that list. Just different. Since they're all pre-amps, it be like saying which is the best head-Ampeg, Mesa, or Eden. They're good for different things. What kind of music are you playing?

If switchability is important I'd go for a programmable or Deluxe BDDI, (or VT) then you have 3 or 6 presets.

for informational purposes I'm just going to point out that you can pick up any 3 of the above for the cost of 1 REDDI.

I've heard nothing but fantastic things about it, though.

I agree. The OP seems more after a preamp with a balanced out than a DI....

you can use the BDDI with the simulator turned off. Then it's simply a DI. I've done that live and for recordings as well. Works pretty well in my opinion. I haven't found it colors the bass when used like that.

How about the Radial J48? It is an active DI, but I have heard that it is excellent for both active and passive basses. Can't speak from experience, though...

I would go for an Avalon U5 or the REDDI.

I own about 20 of them .. ranging from chinese junk to "must have"

OVERALL I find if you can ignore the distortion, the M80 is the best value.

For the rest, it really depends on the mated bass, expectation and application.

I've been paid to redo studio tracks to use an M80.. never a countryman... never a tone hammer.. never the RedDI

The unfortunate thing about DIs is it really depends on the mated bass...

You'll be receiving tons and tons of replies "I love my" the unfortunate thing is they normally haven't a/b tested them.

Once paying $150 for the DI, they're all in the same league --- the issue is more taste and use.

I use a Countryman myself. I sometimes put it between my bass head and cab. If using a DI in a live situation I think simpler is better. Most likely the sound man is going to re-EQ anyways.

that new eden looks cool. fwiw love my SABDDI for live and U5 for studio . . .
