Best Bass for under $300?

What is the best bass for under $300? I have been looking at the Epiphone Les Paul, EB-3, and Thunderbird. Also, what is the best or some of the best basses for under $200? Thanks.

EDIT: Okay, so judging by what you guys are saying, I have narrowed my list down to 4 Basses, out of these, which ones are the best/ would you buy?

1) Ibanez SR

2)SX

3)Peavy

4)Squire

www.rondomusic.net has the sx and brice. They would be good choices but I would choose the Squire modified J Bass

My second choice would be a OLP Musicman. If I had to go for under $150 I would get the SX J Bass in Lake Placid Blue with Maple Neck. http://www.rondomusic.net/sjb57.html

I would venture that the answer to "what is the best bass at X price" can always be answered Yamaha.

Whether a Yamaha is for you is another matter.

I went wit a squier P Bass special, its ok for under $300, STAY AWAY FROM YAMAHA!!!!!!

I have had a cheap Yamaha RBX200 now for about 15 years, and although I love my US Fender Jazz, I just can't part with the Yamaha. It is a great bass for the money - I upgraded my pickups to Bartolini, but even with the original pick ups it was a great, simple, light bass. I have previously had a (more expensive) active pick up Yamaha that sounded brilliant as well. Having said that, Squier are great value for money too. Have not tried an Epiphone.

I am in with the Ibanez SR series. Unfortunately, the SR neck has ruined me for all other basses.

fender skull & bones squier is nice for the price. A used Ibanez or yamaha can be had for this price as well.

Samick makes a very good bass under $200
Other wise start cruising the music stores and play every one you can until you make friends with one.Chances are you are going to spend a lot of time together.used is good.abused not so good
