Personally, I'd jump on a Squier before an Ibanez and an Ibanez before an SX...
not knockin' SX at all...just have to consider quality...

I dunno, I don't really like the look of Fender basses though. I am really leaning towards the Ibanez.
Ibanez' are solid...not a bad choice, IMO...
Yamaha's lack a little in the styling dept on their lower end stuff...but boy their necks are sweet...
When I grow up (
), I wanna own an Ibanez Prestige Series BTB, and a Yamaha TRB, and a Lakland 94...none of these are "fender" like, either...Stay away from OLP like the plauge. That was the first bass I ever bought, and it died on me after 4 months. I kept it pretty nice condition, the wiring just sucked horribly.
Yeah, the bass I had been using (ESP LTD) died, and it was only lightly used for about 6 months.
It should be easy to fix the wiring in that OLP and ESP; it certainly would be cheaper than buying another bass. That being said, I'm surprised either of those bassed crapped out that fast; sounds like maybe a pot got loose and turned around till the wires broke off or something.
I love used USA peavey at that price. Look at the foundations if you like j's or fury's if you like a p bass. I've played a few yamaha's that I really liked as well.
