Man, TB makes me feel really old sometimes. First, I learned there is something called "stoner/doom" music and now it looks like I have to add "deathcore" to the list of music I'm clueless on. Is that anything like Steely Dan?
I really don't understand this although I understand it is made in jest. Doom metal started in the 80s (or even earlier than that if you consider Sabbath doom, although at the time it wasn't called that obviously) and stoner rock started in the 90s. Just because you've never heard of a genre outside of your music circle doesn't make it some strange, obscure thing. Humppa music is a Finnish mix of jazz and foxtrot that originated in the 50s. You've probably never heard of that either. Does that make you feel old as well?
Anyways, as some other people have already mentioned mids are where it's at. When you are playing with two (or sometimes even three) 7 string down-tuned guitars and you scoop your mids like so many metal players like to do, you might as well not plug in your bass when you play live. Sure it sounds cool when you play by yourself but you will be instantly lost in the band mix. In metal mids are how you stand out in the mix. I don't really buy into the "you need this cab when you tune this low" idea. The fEarful cabs are cool and would probably work great, but as Jimmy said people have been using 810s for decades for a reason and they are not going anywhere either.
