Best Bass Intro!

oh geez.. I forgot about National Anthem..

the night before Kid A was released I got to goto a listening party here in Madison at a big theatre where the various Kid A blips were played on the screen during the playback of the album..

I was totally overwhelmed when I heard that bass kick in on that song.

Here are some of my faves:

"New Year's Day" & "40" - U2 (album "Live - Under A Blood Red Sky),

"Frightened" - New Model Army (album "No Rest For The Wicked"),

"Summertime Rolls" - Jane's Addiction (album "Nothing's Shocking"),

"Life Goes On" - The Damned (album "Strawberries"),

"Glory Of Love" - The Armoury Show (album "Waiting For The Floods"),

"No More Heroes" - The Stranglers (album "No More Heroes"),

"The Love Cats" - The Cure (album "Japanese Whispers"),

"Blister In The Sun" - Violent Femmes (album "Violent Femmes").

How about Michael Anthony's intro to 'You're No Good' from VH2??!

Just kidding!! :D :D :D

"Heart of the Sunrise" - Yes Fragile (Chris Squire)
"Five G" - Bruford One of A Kind (Jeff Berlin)

And to answer Andrew Jones' question, I think Chuck Rainey played the Barney Miller theme, I'm gonna go check on that now.

edit: I did a search...
Jim Hughart played the "Barney Miller" theme. It was credited in BP to Chuck Berghofer, but he wrote it to say it was actually Hughart.

The Best bass intro I have ever heard live in person was by Rick Laird of Mahavishnu Orchestra, one of the tightest bands live ever.

The Best bass intro I have ever heard is the intro done live by Jack Casady with Jefferson Airplane
on the song '3/5's of a Mile in 10 Seconds' off the record album 'Bless its pointed little head'. If you don't have this or haven't heard it, find it. It is awesome, even more so for 1969 [ or so ].

Wonder if he learned those moves when he played with James Brown?

PS Rick Laird gave up on bass playing after leaving MO and playing Jazz in NY for a while, apparently the gig market was awful. Word is that he is now a successful professional photographer.
