best bass magazine

I'd stick with the "Dummies" book and when you have worked your way through that, move onto :

Money better spent IMO. While there are some lessons in bass magazines, the majority of the material is advertisments. You will be off to a great start with the two above books.

Right now there's Bass Player magazine, and Bass, which is a UK-oriented magazine. AFAIK that's all there is right now, as far as print goes. Guitar World had one, but they discontinued it in (I believe) 2006. There also was Bassics and Bass Frontiers, both of which I haven't seen for a while, although Bass Frontiers has new life as an on-line magazine...
mags are for reading while on the crapper LOL. i dare say Bass Player is the best one especially for the price. Much of the lessons are not really beginner but it always has one full transription. THe UK one is nice n glossy n big but expensive and i think Bass Player has as much or more value in it's pages.
mags were essential to me when i was learning guitar in the 80s ...they were the only source of monthly transcriptions back then and the easiest way to gather inspiration by reading about your favorite players as well as get curious reading about players you've not heard.
the net has changed all that with youtubes and tab sites but i still love to pick up a mag.

Believe it or not, I miss those days when the guitar mags would have a featured bass player in it. I've actually been buying those off of ebay (Such as the bass issue of Guitar world - Jack Bruce and Billy Sheehan on the cover). It's funny, but when Bass Guitar (the Guitar World owned bass mag) folded, part of me was thinking, "well, at least it'll go back to how they were doing the magazine before they started BG"...especially after the letter I got announcing the change. Boy, was I WAY off!!!
