Best bass that the consensus says sucks

I love the way they look, like the way they sound, and hate the way they play... Also hate what they cost.

Comparing apples to apples, they start looking pretty cheap when you compare them to a Fender Custom Shop.

Squier Bronco. It's a competent bass from the factory, and one that's inexpensive to turn into a formidable instrument with a quick pickup swap.

How about the Gibson SG reissue or Epiphone EB-O & EB-3? Seems like many folks don't care for their sound or alleged "poor build quality." I'm not promoting or bashing these, but I've read a few threads of strong negative opinions on these three basses. They are certainly not the most versatile of basses, but they do have a distinctive sound all of their own. Macca's touring bassist plays an SG and I don't think he was fired for wielding such a "terrible" axe. I mean if it's good enough for Sir Paul then...

Gibson Les Paul "money" bass..... Not much talk about them, I have one.. Absolutely blows my SG reissue away! Sound wise, feel, Thats one bass I will never part with, Not that I dont like the SG.... but it could be sold. "MONEY BASS" No way!!

Everyone says a Warwick bass is great. I played one at the store and thought it was THE worst thing I've ever held. Love my Fenders

I don't see much Dean love on TB but I think they make a pretty solid bass for the $. I have a Hardtail, an Edge Q4, and an Edge Q4 Bartolini. All of them are exceptional for the price I paid. Although I did only pay $140 each for the Q4's and $300 for the Hardtail. All three were Korean made and played great right out of the box.

Try the Metalmans, great for the do re mee. I bought 2.

I dunno. Ricks are pretty much love or hate, and about an equal split. I don't think anyone just kind of likes them.

Not to start a fight, but what could anyone complain about concerning a Rick( except the string change issue, its a pain on their guitars as well)? I finally bought a 4003 about a month ago, I could not imagine a nicer bass. It is the best playing bass I've ever held. To put my statement in context, I am 45, played guitar since I was 16, played bass for about 5 years, currently own 18 guitars and basses. No bass compares to the Rick. Again not starting an argument, just confused by the rick-hate.

Hey, let's us Ric-Lovers keep the wonder to ourselves. No sense in spreadin that word around. If everyone had one, I wouldnt feel half as cool as I do with mine. Word to the wise.
So, in that vein, I hate Rics.

I am shocked at the Ric bashing. I grew up idolizing Ian Kilmister and lusted for one. Finally got a 4003 in '94 and... hated it? How could this be? I asked myself. I'm new to TB and until today thought I was alone in my dislike if Rics. Everybody I knew was in awe of the darn thing. I tried so bloody hard (literally, the bridge cut up my hand) to love it, I forced myself to play it daily for years. I simply didnt like the sound or the feel. I grew to resent it to the point I sold it for $300 a few years back. I've checked eBay recently and haven't seen one go for less than $1500...now I resent it more. Hate maybe a strong word, it was clearly a very well made bass, but I just didn't like a single thing about it beyond the idea it was a Rickenbacker.
Hate? Dont mention the F word to me, hated the P bass beyond hate. Had it a week.
